Disposal of Paint: Remove the lid and let the paint air dry in the can. To speed up the process, stir in an absorbent material such as clay kitty litter, sawdust, or leftover concrete mix. Paint thrown in regular trash can make a terrible mess when the garbage truck compacts the cans and the paint is released. This is one of the main reasons most municipalities require paints to be dried out or solidified before disposal.

Buffalo ReUSE will be accepting used or new hand, shop, and garden tools (no power tools) that are in good condition, such as rakes, brooms, clippers, ladders, wheelbarrows, hoses, hammers, wrenches, saws, etc., even coffee cans full of nails and screws. All donations are a tax-deductible. The tools will be lent to block clubs and community groups for neighborhood beautification and repair projects.
Plastic Bags: Take them with you to the grocery store to be reused when bagging your groceries, instead of taking new ones. Return your bags back to the grocery store for recycling. Most stores have a container to take these bags back and recycle them for you.
Styrofoam: Unfortunately, there is no local recycling outlet for block Styrofoam, but there are other ways to handle it. Consider saving Styrofoam block, meat trays, etc., for later use in arts and crafts. The meat trays make great paint pallets and the block builds great castles. Using them over and throwing them out is always better than the one time use they are made for. You could also mail the Styrofoam packaging, in its original box, back to the manufacturer. This is most effective when accompanied by a note stating they need to take responsibility for finding a safe recycling solution, since you have no Styrofoam recycling in your area. You may also mail the Styrofoam to: POLYFOAM, attn: scrap recycle, 955 S. Woodland, Michigan City, IN, 46360; 219-879-8618. This company recycles Expanded Polystyrene by grinding it into new forms. They take #6 Styrofoam (the white packaging used for electronics). If you can't find a number on the Styrofoam, and it is in block form and colored white, assume they will take it. - What size container do I need?
